Kathy Kienzle and Michele Frisch
Kathy Kienzle and Michele Frisch formed the Bell’ Alma Duo in 2004 after playing together for many years. Their collaborations have included performances with the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, The Dale Warland Singers, the World Choral Symposium, and various other chamber and choral settings. In 2005, the Duo released their first CD, “O Bell’ Alma, Music from the Opera” to critical acclaim. The Bell’ Alma Duo has been chosen to appear at the World Harp Congress in Amsterdam in 2008, The National Flute Association Convention in New York in 2009 and the American Harp Society in Tacoma in 2010. The Duo is now featuring it’s third CD recording, “Bella Danza, Music from the Dance” available directly from this site or Amazon.com.
Michele Frisch, flute
Michele Antonello Frisch, principal flute of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra since 1984, studied with James Pellerite at Indiana University, and furthered her studies with Julius Baker, Albert Tipton, Emil Opava, and Jean-Pierre Rampal. She served as principal with the Colorado Philharmonic, toured with the Minnesota Wind Soloists, and has played with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. She has been a featured soloist with the Aspen Festival Chamber Orchestra, Rocky Mountain Conservatory, Wintergreen Festival, and the National Flute Association. Frisch currently serves on the faculty of University of Northwestern-St. Paul and is a sought-after recitalist, clinician, and adjudicator. She has also recorded extensively with VocalEssence on the Collins Classics, EMI, and Virgin Classics labels and has toured internationally with the Karios Trio.
Kathy Kienzle, harp
Kathy Kienzle, principal harpist of the Minnesota Orchestra since 1994, has also performed as harpist and soloist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. She was a second and third prize winner respectively in the 1975 American Harp Society National Competition and the 1976 International Harp Competition in Israel. A frequent soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, Kienzle has premiered concertos by Liebermann (with James Galway) and Rautavaara. She appears on eight recordings with the renowned Dale Warland Singers, and has been featured as guest performer at the World Harp Congresses in Paris in 1990, Tacoma in 1996, and Prague in 1999. Kienzle has been soloist with the Eastern Music Festival and the Oregon Bach Festival, and is a member of the faculties of the University of Minnesota and MacPhail Center for Music. A graduate of the Juilliard and the University of Arizona, her teachers include Susann McDonald and Marcel Grandjany.
